I’m sure many of you have seen the “Spam Links” link in the admin panel and wondered how to use it. Unfortunately this is a poorly implimented feature due to where the links needed appear in the admin panel.
I have tested this for the title, url and description fields and it catches the keywords in every field.

Once a link gets moved to the “Spam Links” area, is there a way to bring it out??? There are certain keywords that could easily be used by spammers but also be legit too.
For instance, ‘mortgage’ and ‘loan’… Those two are famous for spammers, but also might be found in a legitimate mortgage company listing or a car dealership listing.
You can approve the link, that will bring it out of the spam area and place it in the directory like a normal link.
Yes keywords can be tricky, if you run a site about mortgages then don’t add mortgage to your list.
But those keywords are based on the most commonly used spam words. They are found in email, directories and forums and are used constantly and repeatedly by spammers because typically those are the highest paying keywords. Of course spammers try and munge the keywords with character replacements like a 0 for an o.
Thanks for your great tips!
How can I ban a certain IP address?
IP address banning is a feature of .htaccess. However if you have cPanel you can do it there instead.
