mod_rewrite, indexu and godaddy

Have you tried running IndexU on Godaddy? Getting mod_rewrite to work properly isn’t as easy as you think.

Of course if you talk to support they’ll say that mod_rewrite is enabled and that you’re seeing problems because of a scripting error. Don’t believe them, it’s their environment that’s causing the issues.

Here’s how to fix it.

Parked domains – dump em!

Don’t you just hate your directory being filled with useless parked domains? Have no fear, IndexU is on it’s way to get rid of those listings for you!

You know the pages I mean. Those URL’s that expire and get parked at companies like SEDO, or Buydomains. They serve no purpose in a directory, absolutely none.

They contain no information, no data, nothing useful at all. The only thing they’re good for are for the people who bought the domains so that when someone clicks on one of the links they earn a few cents.

IndexU is going to change all that. At this moment (in SVN) we have implimented the ability to block domains that are listed with a number of companies that do domain parking.

I hope we can add a spider check soon to check for existing listings that are parked.

New IndexU sneak peek

So here’s a screenshot for the new admin panel. I won’t say much past that, but I’m sure you’ll like it.

Beta testers required

Nicecoder is looking for a few users that have an interest in becoming beta testers for IndexU plugins.

What would we do?
Nicecoder will provide you with the latest plugins (free and commercial) to beta test and beat up and report back with what works and what doesn’t.

What would you do?
You would need to respond within a time limit agreed upon (up to seven days after a beta release) and test the plugin to ensure that it works and that there are no issues with things like documentation, function etc

What do you get?
Free plugins and free renewals for IndexU as long as you remain an active beta tester.

How do you qualify?
You must meet these minimum requirements
1) Test and reply to active beta submissions within the time limit
2) Hold a valid IndexU license
3) Be an active user of the forum

Of course it’s acceptable to miss a few beta tests over time, not everyone can be available every day of the year, but you must be available for most of them.

How will it work?
I will add a new forum for beta testers and only those users will have access to that forum. Each plugin will have it’s own thread and you will download the plugin from there. Then after testing you will reply with any issues you see/found.

If there were issues then an updated plugin would be posted on a new thread and the testing would begin anew.

Once a plugin goes to release the thread would be closed so we can track which ones are done and which ones aren’t.

So are you interested? If you are send me an email to support @ nicecoder.com with the subject “beta tester” and tell me why you think you should be considered.

And to answer your question, all current free and premium plugins will be available for you to beta test.

IF this goes well, I will add beta testers for ALL nicecoder products. This means that some users could end up getting every one of our products for free. So help out your fellow users and consider joining up!

Nicecoder January Newsletter

Nicecoder January newsletter

As reported last month, December and January are cleanup months. We plan on going through all of our programs, plugins and templates and fixing any known issues, bugs, old code and things like that so there were no releases of software in December. You should see a lot of releases from us at the end of January!

We did however, re-release all of our premium templates at indexutemplates to include xhtml/css validity and now include version numbers with all of our templates so that you can know if you have the most recent template or not. We are still working on the free templates and will have those re-released by the end of January.

Nicecoder has also introduced a beta testers program where users can participate in beta testing various software. To qualify for the beta tester program you must meet the following requirements

1) Test and reply to active beta submissions within the time limit
2) Hold a valid IndexU license
3) Be an active user of the forum

You can read more about the beta tester program at http://www.nicecoder.com/community/f57/beta-testers-8056/

And just because I’m all about shaking things up and making it interesting, for the ENTIRE month of January iDesk and IndexU are on sale! The coupon code is shakeitup and is good for 35% off the retail price.

And just for good measure, the price of copyright removal for the month of January is going to go from $30 all the way down to $10. For users with multiple licenses the fee is normally a maximum of $99, for the month of January that fee will only be $49. To purchase copyright removal for multiple licenses please contact me at support@nicecoder.com because we must do this manually.
