Another Manual!

Another day, another Manual for a nicecoder project.

This is a complete users guide for the Extreme DMOZ Extractor! This file details extracting links and categories from the DMOZ RDF files all the way to importing them into your IndexU directory.

I hope you enjoy this manual and you get some use out of it. It also describes how to fix the most common error that users come across!

Another Extreme DMOZ Extractor issue

This tip can apply to IndexU as well!

I recently sold a slice to a customer, and they were experiencing issues after that with the Top 10 not being updated. Looking further into the issue the hits were not being updated either. Additionally the Hot links were not being updated.

If you know anything about IndexU then you should know that all three of these things are related.

Top 10 gets it’s data from hits, and Hot get it’s data from hits as well. So if the hits are not being updated then none of those items will work.

It seems that with some sites when you upload a slice via the admin panel that Please Login or Register to read the rest of this content.

Extreme DMOZ Extractor error

If you use the Extreme DMOZ Extractor and receive the following error

Run time error ‘429′
ActiveX component can’t create object

then you are missing a simple windows component that is free from Microsoft. Download the following from Please Login or Register to read the rest of this content. and install it and run the DMOZ Extractor again and it should work perfectly fine.

Importing a database or DMOZ Extractor import (problems)

I’ve seen a lot of users over the last few years talk about difficulties when trying to import a database either as tab delimited or from a DMOZ extractor import.

Most of the difficulties stem from the import “timing out” which admittedly IndexU does not report an error for and simply produces a “finished” screen.

The issue is one that is caused by your webhost and has nothing to do with IndexU, and it may take talking to your tech support to get resolved.
