Retromoderation + google = busted

Do you remember the “open letter to nicecoder clients”? I do, because I wrote it. And I got lots of praise for it from many people because it was the truth.

However, it seems it’s been deleted from the nicecoder forum. But have no fear, it can still be found on Google!

Stop retromoderating, you’re only hurting yourselves.

Google goes one step further from my screenshot posted last night, how about this URL? Sorry, no cached page on that one, but it got spidered and the text is there to further prove that I posted last night (which is why I took the screenshot).

Stop retromoderating legitimate posts, like the one I made last night. It was an honest and open question and you didn’t even have to answer it if you didn’t want to.

Retromoderation on nicecoder forum

I’m not sure what’s going on, but someone is retro moderating the Nicecoder forums.

Not only is this a blatant abuse of “powers”, it shows that someone clearly wants the world to see only what they want you to see.

Below is a screenshot of a post I made last night. It was an honest question. You can see the full post, there was nothing bad here. Hundreds of posts have been deleted and I wanted to know why. Looks like no one wants to answer me.

Retirement announcement

Below is the post I made on the Nicecoder site today

Effective immediately, I will no longer be working for Nicecoder. While no deal has been signed yet, I think that it will be completed shortly and will no longer be a part owner of Nicecoder.

The choice to leave was mine and is for personal reasons which will not be discussed on the forum here.

I may or may not participate on the forums in the future, that I have not decided yet. However for the short term I will not be on the forum at all. Please understand that if you reply to this post or PM me that you will not receive a respose at all.

All support requests should be directed to support@nicecoder.com

I wish everyone the best of luck in the future and hope to see you on the interwebs!

————————–

While I may have retired from Nicecoder, I haven’t decided if I’ll be retiring from this site or working on Nicecoder sites for customers. I’ll make that decision within a week or two at the latest.

IndexU as a service

I am sure many of you have heard of the phrase “software as a service”.

A few weeks ago I drafted the requirements and specifications to have Nicecoder start offering IndexU as a service. At this time it’s just in the beginning stages, but the outcome looks promising.

What it entails is that a user will be able to go to a web page, sign up for either the full version or the free version of IndexU, enter some details, and start running IndexU without having to do anything of the tedious work such as installing, setting permissions or having to worry about hosting.

The free version will be supported by advertising on each and every page and will use a subdomain.

If you choose to move from the free version to the paid version, you can take your template with you so you don’t lose any changes you have made.

The paid version will not require a license to be purchased, it will only require a single monthly fee and can use a subdomain or your own domain. No pricing has been determind at this point.

To begin with, we will be offering the free version so we can use that to test everything. Once I am satisfied that platform is working properly then we will add the full version.

The free hosted version script may even be offered for sale! That is something I have considered but have not discussed with anyone else yet (mostly because we don’t have a product yet and I want to see the results).

So keep watching for IndexU as a service, I’m quite excited about it.

Custom work information

So here’s the way it works.

If you want custom work to be done by me, you MUST contact me personally through this site or via my personal email. If you contact me via Nicecoder, the job will be referred to the Nicecoder programmers.

If you want me to do the custom work, I only accept credit cards and moneybookers. I do not accept paypal.

And now for the fine print

  • Rates are $40 per hour for less than 4 hours
  • Over 4 hours the rates are $30 an hour
  • Minimum charge is $50
  • Rates are non-negotiable
  • Rates are in US dollars
  • 50% Deposit up front

Video’s coming soon

I’m currently in the process of creating some high quality video’s to place on Indexusupport.

These video’s will be tutorials on how to do a lot of things with IndexU. The first two video’s are simple and show

  • How to download IndexU
  • How to update your license key.

Video’s in the works will be

  • Editing pages
  • Adding custom fields
  • Customizing templates
  • Creating and importing databases
  • Using the bad words filter
  • Enabling and setup of payment systems
  • Enabling and configuring plugins
  • Modifying links
  • Modifying categories
  • Hidden categories
  • Category setup
  • Category pricing
  • Sponsored and premium links
  • Default fields
  • Adding advertising
  • Google maps
  • Adding static pages

Those are just the ideas that I’ve had. Of course there are many more videos that can be made.

The videos will be hosted on Indexusupport and will be very high quality. At this time I am exploring formats and find the current stand of FLV to be highly inferior. There is just too much pixel loss during the encoding to make these FLV videos worthwhile. I believe the format will simply be swf format which doesn’t have the limitations of FLV.

Videos will be quite large and at least 800px by 600px in size or possibly larger so they will be easily viewable.

Most videos will be available only to paid members as another benefit, but some videos will be available to non members for no cost as examples of the video quality.

Of course I will be happy to take user suggestions and make videos that will appeal to a large audience.

Google sitemaps failing

I recently discovered that Google sitemaps are failing to be accepted.

The issue revolves around the fact that Google wants sitemaps to be in the uppermost directory and all links in the sitemap must be in the same directory or subdirectories.

Since the current sitemap is in /sitemap/, all links are failing.

A report has already been made in regards to this and should be fixed soon. I have also requested that a new release be made to address this issue and would also add bugfixes found in the last two weeks.

Stay tuned for more information.

Two new manuals

I’ve been busy with manuals again!

I’ve got two new manuals for you.

The first one is titled Installing A New Language File In IndexU Deluxe and since it’s quite obvious what it’s about, I won’t give much of a description.

The second manual is titled Installing An IndexU Plugin and deals with uploading and installing plugins.

All guides and manuals can be downloaded from the Guides And Manuals page.
